Harrogate is up and running - still some snagging to sort out, but we have had a great weekend meeting all our new customers and learning all about Harrogate.
Our little team is expanding and things are very exciting. Its been great fun telling them all about the sweets and letting them taste them.
Plus we have a great new supplier to add to our list so much more choice too
When you walk through the door of one of our traditional sweet shops you will be transported back to your childhood and happy times. The aim of our shops is to trigger all these happy memories and our mission is to ensure you leave the shop with a bag of your favourite sweets and a smile on your face.

A very busy last few weeks, Harrogate opened last Friday and Helmsley had a visit from the BBC. Have been keeping up to date on twitter and facebook with all the news.
However there is a really good bit of exciting news - We think we have tracked down another one of our wanted sweets....watch this space as its one everyone has been asking for.....

Harrogate is partly fitted out, should be completed by Tuesday. Lots of deliveries have been arriving today - found some great new lines which will be in Helmsley tomorrow and Harrogate when it opens. Leaflets and loyalty cards are printed and credit card machine ready to be installed.
All very exciting. Hoping that we can be open in Harrogate next weekend.

Mr York of York, Yorks
I came across this original advert made in 1929 when researching my family history. It was the first animated cartoon advert. Its worth a look.

Best sellers
We expected to be quiet after Christmas, but the shop has been nice and steady. Everyone seems to be fed up of Chocolate, the normal best sellers of Chocolate raisins, Jazzies and chocolate fudge seem to have been dumped in favour of liquorice, sherbet lemons and pear drops.
The boiled sweets in particular are going well as they take a long time to suck, ideal for when you are going to cheat on your diet!! or so we are told :-)

New Shop
We are all very excited today, Helmsley is going to have a younger sister shop. We have just collected the keys for a Traditional Sweet Shop in Harrogate. The shop fitting will start next week and we are hoping to be open by the beginning of February.
This gives us more room for the web sales, plus we can stock more lines as Harrogate has a big storeroom.
Harrogate will also be selling old fashioned drinks and a great range of sweet inspired ice cream. Watch this space for more news...

Christmas treat
One of our regular customers asked us to get her some plain chocolate, stem ginger sweets. Her Christmas treat is a box of these with a tipple of Whiskey on Christmas afternoon.
I can remember that we always had a box of sugar almonds on Christmas afternoon which my Uncle always gave to my mother as a present - she didn't like them so we got them to eat!
I always had a rule that my children could have the chocolates off the Christmas tree on Christmas afternoon. However a certain daughter and a dog would nearly always eat them well before and we could never find any left. :-)
What sweets did you/do you have as treats at Christmas?
